My Top 5 Perfumes

My Top 5 Perfumes

I should be told off for the title of this post, as I know full well that most people (outside of the beauty industry) do not call their favourite scent, their ‘fragrance’. Naturally, you would call said fragrance your perfume. C’est La Vie, you clearly know what I’m talking about.

I am very very lucky that I have been given lots of fragrances over the years and now have a bulging basket full of ’em. I have my favourites though, and these faves comprise old classics that have been with me since puberty along with newer jazzier (great word) things that have proved their worth and graduated to the dream team. I am ready to formally introduce you to them…….

Tom Ford Black Orchid

This fragrance is beyond sexy. It’s almost filthy! Honestly, I always get compliements when I wear it and always recognise it when someone else is wearing it. LOVE it a lot. Notes: Lotus wood, patchouli, incense, vetiver, vanilla, balsam and sandalwood.

Chloe Signature EDP

This is one of those old classics that you pick up when you are in your twenties and getting past the teen/tweeny sugar sweet scents of youth. It’s so classic, and fresh yet a little bit heady that I am happy to wear it all year round. Notes Lychee, Freesia , Peony, Lily of the Valley, Rose, Magnolia, Virginia Cedar and Musk.

Mary Greenwell Plum

I don’t know many people who know this fragrance, but it’s a definite marmite. Me and J-Sco LOVE it….Chloe (aforementioned boss) & CJW hate it. It’s pungent and almost old fashioned – if you hate musk, you will hate this. I’m sort of doing it a disservice because I genuinely love the heady, sexy notes and grown up vibe of it. It’s a definite shortlister for my #favefragever. Notes: English plum, blackcurrant, peach, bergamot, lemon, gardenia, tuberose, rose, jasmine, sandalwood, oaknoss, patchouli, amber and white musk.

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria – Lys Soleia

I think I’ve talked about my Guerlain love before….if I haven’t, then shame on me. Aqua Allegoria are a range of light fresh perfumes which areĀ  easy on the nose….the idea is that anyone could wear it, and you could pretty much pick any of them as a gift for someone conifdident in the knowledge they’ll like it. Ironicaly, my old boss Chloe acually HATED Lys Soleia and it gave her such a headache I had to stop wearing it! Notes: lilies, citrus, vanilla, tuberose, ylang ylang & white musk. Price

Jack

This is a very exciting newb which I was lucky enough to be given by the lovely people at International Flavors & Fragrances (the comany I worked for recently. It has the distinctly random accolade of being the brainchild of Richard E Grant who is a secret perfumier.

I also have a brand spanking new little fragrance (a male one, which as it goes – I love) which I a pretty excited to share with you soon too. Only time will tell whether Jack will make the cut and join my Fab 5.

What do you think? Do any of these float your boat? What was your first ever perfume/aftershave?

Richard E Grant eh? This I did not know…..

I used to wear Alexander McQueen Kingdom. That was a marmite scent too, so much so they discountinued it. Waaaaa! I loved it, it had a base note of cumin which was where the controversy lay. On some people it reminded them of sweat (some even claimed it reminded them of post sexy times sweatiness) but not on me! As with your Tom Ford I always got lovely comments when I wore it. It was a really sexy scent that changed through your the day to an earthy warm sort of scent. A bit like the way your skin smells when you just come in from lying in the sun.

I once caught a whiff of it by our back door at work and followed it up to the third floor into a colleagues office. She was a little perturbed when I burst in and said “Kingdom!”.

Sadly, I have never found a scent I like as much since so have been fragrance free since then. I’m looking for a new one. I quite like D&G The One, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb (alas it is a best friend’s signature scent so reminds me of her) and wore Gucci Guilty for a while which I quite like.

Might check out Tom Ford, that sexy beast…..
